5 Apps That Can Help You Be a Productive Teacher

Educators have been relying more and more on online educational resources as the years go by, accelerated in the past year in particular. Whether it's with innovative websites or devices, technology has become an important factor in educating people who thrive from both traditional and alternative ways of learning.

Teachers across the country have begun to discover some amazing apps that help teach others through new and exciting ways. These five apps are helpful for any teacher!

1. Kahoot!

The Kahoot! app (Available on Play Store and App Store) is a fun and straightforward way for teachers to give out quizzes, host online discussions, and conduct surveys. This free game-based response system can be used by students in a classroom or from the comfort of their own homes.

When conducting a quiz, teachers simply show their students the question by using the projector, by writing or typing it out, or even verbally. They'll be able to answer each question with their personal device, whether it's an iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

2. Nearpod

The free Nearpod app (Available on Play Store and App Store) is a simple way for educators to create interactive teaching materials like presentations, lesson plans, and any variety of digital content. With Nearpod, teachers can confidently track the progress of their classes, as well as those of individual students. For teachers who teach more than one group of students consistently, Nearpod is a lifesaver.

Nearpod makes creating digital content easy for even the least tech-savvy teachers, giving them all the instructions necessary to easily pack their slides full of images, video, polls, and more. Students can follow their personalized lessons from home or in class from their own device, depending on the settings determined by the teacher.

3. Sono Flex

Sono Flex (Available on App Store only) is an incredibly useful app for students who are nonverbal or are unable to communicate clearly. By downloading the Sono Flex app onto a device they can access, these students will find communication easier than ever before.

Sono Flex presents each student with a glossary of images — which are organized by topic — that the student can tap. The words will be said out loud, ensuring that every student can be heard in their learning environment. Sono Flex Lite is free but there's also an impressive $99.99 version with several additional features.

4. Notability

Having a note-taking app like Notability (Available on App Store only) is essential for students and teachers alike in this new digital age. Notability goes so much further than the simplistic notes app, allowing its users to create multiple folders, annotated PDFs, and audio recordings.

Not only will this help students with all different ways of learning, but it's also highly useful for teachers when testing language or reading fluency. With its multiple features, the $11.99 Notability app is perfect for students studying to become teachers, whether they're attending in-person classes or are studying outside the classroom.

5. ShowMe

ShowMe (Available on App Store only) is a free app that offers a convenient interactive whiteboard. With ShowMe, teachers can create presentations that they can share with entire classes or individual students.

Though it's not difficult to send students regular slide presentations to click through, ShowMe gives educators the ability to create presentations with drawings, images, and a high-quality voice over. Not only is ShowMe helpful for explaining complex topics, but it's also a fun way to teach and learn new ideas.
